 As one of the deepest gorges in the world, Tiger Leaping Gorge is a not-to-be missed site in Yunnan. The Jinsha River, original part of the Yangtze, surges between two snow-capped mountains, Jade Dragon and Haba, make the gorge 3900 meters deep, which is 1,800 meters more than the drop in the Grand Canyon in Colorado, US.
This trek takes you along the most spectacular section of the gorge - with views of the whole valley. The landscape alternatives between rich forests and pastoral terraces. And you have the opportunity to visit Naxi villages and meet local people.

Day 01 ARRIVE LIJIANG
Arrive Lijiang, met and transfer to Jian-nan-chun Hotel, a hotel converted from one of the traditional houses right in the heart of Old Lijiang.
In the afternoon, visit the Dongpa Research Institute and Black Dragon Pond. Have dinner in the Lijiang Old Town.

Day 02 LIJIANG/HALFWAY GUESTHOUSE
Drive to Qiaotou in early morning. It is the start point of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Today, we trek about 8 hours to Halfway Guesthouse passing a few mountain villages. Have a picnic lunch on the way while having a view of snow-capped mountains, thousand-meter high cliff, and roaring water through the very narrow gorge. The Halfway guesthouse is a beautiful Naxi style house with shower. It is nice to rest on the veranda with a cup of drink, watching sunset over the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Overnight in Halfway Guesthouse, 2600 meters above sea level.

Day 03 HALFWAY GUESTHOUSE/LIJIANG
Today, trek 2 hours passing a waterfall and all the way down to the Mid Tiger-Leaping Rock, which stands right in the middle of the river. Here the Yangtze River is very narrow. It is said, once a tiger was chased by a hunter jumped onto this rock from the Mt Jade Dragon, then jumped onto the Mt Haba to the other side. That is how the name of the gorge came from.
Drive back Lijiang and check into Jiannanchun Hotel for 1 night.

Day 04 LIJIANG
You have the day at leisure to enjoy walks around the old town.

Day 05 DEPART LIJIANG
Transfer to the airport for flight out.

Halfway guesthouse: Approx 6 hours walk from Qiaotou on the high trail.
